Reading daily is so important. In 4th grade students are asked to read 4 nights each week for15 minutes per night. This can be silent reading, reading to a sibling aloud or alternating reading with a parent. Not only will you notice an improvement in fluency, but studies have shown a huge increase in vocabulary use in students who read regularly. Students will get a new reading record each month to record their reading. Students will receive a monthly grade for turning it in. They will also receive a reward for their effort if the goal is met for the month and the sheet has a parents signature.  Remember the goals is 4 nights a week. If you have a busy Monday, you can always read on a weekend day instead.

WEEKLY SPELLING LISTS: Study as needed.

Math Facts Pic

Math Facts Practice- 5 minutes 4 times a week... like the reading, you pick the four days and the ways! You can practice Rocket Math sheets, flash cards, computer games card games, etc... Math facts are the foundatin of all other math skills. Your child will progress much more quicly with other math concepts if he/she is not bogged down by the facts. Your child will also have a short skill review page 3-4 days a week.

Unfinished class work- students will bring home unfinished work that needs to be completed in order for the next day's lessons to be meaningful.

Testing Cycle- Students will begin a new week of spelling and reading every Thursday. Tests will be on Wednesday. This will allow the weekend days for kids who want/ need more time to study and read.

Bible Pic

BIBLE CHALLENGE: This is for everyone! Parents and students alike... siblings too!

Every year I have my students learn about the Bible. They make a library of all of the books in the Bible and they learn a song. Fourth graders are encouraged to start recognizing names of the books. They also should become familiar with the type of information they can learn in both the Old and New Testaments. The will practice finding verses and reading the Bible.

By Fourth Grade I am hoping that the students will strive to memorize the books of the Bible. They will be given the copy of the song for All Saints Day to practice with their family. They will have plenty of practice using the song to locate verses in the Bible to learn more about their Faith.

GOAL: Memorize the Books of the Bible and earn a wonderful certificate and prize! If parents learn them with their kids, they earn an extra prize for their students! If siblings learn them, they get a prize for themselves! I have heard kids as young as 5 memorize all the books! Not a singer- no need to sing me the song, you can recite the books to me! Here's the link to the song.
