TRIGONOMETRY PERFORMANCE STANDARDS 

Required Course Material: notebook/graph paper, graphing calculator (TI-83/84 recommended)

Homework: Homework will be assigned everyday with few exceptions. Each student is expected to use class time and time outside of the classroom to complete all assigned homework. Homework will be graded through unannounced quizzes and/or assignments, which will be turned in to the instructor. Together these problems and quizzes will count as two weekly exams.

Absenteeism and tardiness: Because of my belief in the importance of punctuality and attendance, I will eliminate two weekly test scores before determining the quarter grade for students who have no unexcused tardies and no unexcused absentees.

Weekly exams: Each Thursday a test will be administered in class. The first test will cover approximately one week of class work. The second test will cover all of the preceding class work, as will the third, fourth and fifth tests. After that each test will cover the preceding five weeks work.

A zero will be recorded for a test score in the case of cheating or an unexcused absence. Additionally, there will be no make-up exams. If six tests are not completed each quarter, then a comprehensive quarter exam will normally be administered and will count equivalently to the number of tests missed.

Final Exam: A comprehensive exam may or may not be given at the end of the semester depending upon the performance of the students throughout the semester.

Course grade: Based on your test scores as described above, an average will be determined and a grade assigned according to the criteria:

CALCULUS PERFORMANCE STANDARDS

Homework: Homework will be assigned everyday with few exceptions. Each student is expected to use class time and time outside of the classroom to complete all assigned homework.

Quizzes: Unannounced quizzes worth 10 points each will typically be given several times each week. At the end of the quarter, the lowest quiz score will be deleted and an average score will be determined from the remaining quiz scores. This average score will be multiplied by ten and count equivalently to the exams given each quarter.

Exams: Usually 3 exams will be administered each quarter. A zero will be recorded for a test score in the case of cheating or an unexcused absence. The average of these scores along with the quiz average mentioned previously will be used to determine your quarter grade.

Make-up Exams: One make-up exam for quarters 1, 2, and 3 will be allowed to replace a lower exam score. However, that make-up exam will be administered near the end of the quarter. If that make-up exam score is lower than the original exam, the average of the two exams will be used as the replacement score.

Absenteeism and tardiness: Because of my belief in the importance of punctuality and attendance, I will reward those students whose promptness and attendance is exemplary by awarding partial credit on exams for incorrect solutions to reflect the percentage of the problem worked correctly. Otherwise, no partial credit will be awarded for incorrect solutions.

AP Exam: Although this course will be taught to meet the rigorous standards for Advanced Placement Calculus AB, meeting times outside of the regularly scheduled class times will be offered to help students to further prepare for the AP Calculus exam.
