My Classroom

Expectations:

  • Always come to class prepared with your materials. You will need the follwing every day.
    • charged chromebook (and charger, I know the battery life can be hard to maintain on those devices!)
    • Something to write with
    • A positive attitude :)
  • Social studies encompasses many diffiicult topics that push students out of their comfort zone, and it's important to learn how discuss the world around us in a respectful, and empathetic manner. As we learn about the world around us and its many touchy subjects, I urge students to refer to one of my personal favorites, Colossians 3:12. "clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience."
  • Be ready for discussion! We will be doing a lot of "educational chatting" where students will bounce off eachother to dissect and critically analyze material.
  • Always always communicate! Everyone has bad days, personal struggles, or other commitments. My goal is to help my students in the difficult age of middle school to balance these things and create a safe, compassionate learning environment for all.

Curriculum:

As I am a first year teacher, plans for the year are being written and are likely to change as things come up. I'll be working closely with my department and supervisors to ensure a rigourous and exciting course. Until Parent-Teacher Conferences in mid October, we will be geography state standards located on the DPI's website. After that, 7th grade will branch off into more in depth hsitorical content, and 6th graders will stay on course with geography standards. I'm looking forward to creating all of the material and an exciting school year!
