Hello Regis students!

I would like to provide you with an opportunity to earn service hours by helping me read to my Regis elementary school students. You can submit a video recording of yourself reading one of the options provided (see below) and you might see it appear on Regis’s social media! You will receive your service hours whether or not your video is shared if you follow these guidelines:

Regis Read Aloud Guidelines

Step One- Choose a story or poem to read. If the poem is very short (a few lines), pick two! If you choose a storybook or the Bible, just read one chapter. Your video should not be longer than 20 minutes. Since we are planning to share these recorded videos on the school’s social media, we must follow copyright laws. Only choose from the reading options I have provided. They are all in the public domain (not protected by copyright laws and typically published before 1925.) If you would like to discuss more options with me, email me at tminiatt@case.k12.wi.us

Step Two- Set up your space and record your video. Practice reading the story at least 2 times before recording the video.

  • Introduce yourself at the beginning of the video with just your first name and your grade level (Hello, my name is Henry and I am a freshman). Try to end with an encouraging message for our younger students (Your Regis family is praying for you! Keep up the awesome studying!).
  • Please dress appropriately and follow the Regis dress code. It could be fun to dress up or wear your Regis pride!
  • Speak slowly and loudly enough that the camera will pick up clear audio.
  • Record in an area that is free of clutter and well lit.
  • Feel free to be creative and make it fun! Read to a younger sibling or teddy bear. Choose a comfy chair. Light up your space with Christmas lights.

Following all these guidelines make it more likely that your video will be posted.

Step 3- Share the video with me. You can either send it straight from your phone or upload the video to your Drive and share it from there. There are directions on how to upload and share a video to Drive below.

Step 4- Complete the service hours form with your parent/guardian and send it to Mr Van Hemert or Mrs Allen.

Please email me at tminiatt@case.k12.wi.us if you have questions.

Thank you for taking the time to help me promote literacy at Regis! I look forward to seeing your videos! I appreciate you and am praying for you all!

Take care,

Mrs Miniatt
