Speech:

Unit 1 - Informative Speech

1. Students will be able to identify the different types of informative writing (Writer's Inc. Notes).

2. Students will select an appropriate informative speech topic (Speech topic approval).

3. Students will correctly structure and present an informative speech within the given parameters (Speech presentation).

4. Students will properly cite their sources both within the speech and with an MLA bibliography (Speech presentation).

5. Students will identify main points within an oral speech and identify techniques that help make speech presentations effective (student speech notes).

Unit 1a - Mystery Stories

1. Students will be able to identify key mystery elements (foreshadowing, red herring, suspense, plot, motive) in a short mystery story. (Discussion of "The Adventure of the Abbey Grange")

2. Students will be able to identify types of motive based on a short story. (Discussion of "The Perfect Crime")
