Currently in 2nd grade, we are...

Math

In addition to learning about measuring and money, we just started a unit on shapes.  We will be learning the names and attributes of 2D shapes and will explore some with 3D shapes.  We will also be learning how to partition shapes into fractions. We will begin naming fractions and be able to color in fractions of shapes.

Social Studies
We are still learning about how the government works.  We learned about the constitution and why it was written, just finished learning about the three branches of government and we are now learning more about the President’s job and voting.  After that, we will be focusing on George Washington and Abraham Lincoln, which will align perfectly with President’s Day!  While learning about George Washington and Abe Lincoln we will cross into some math and learn about money.

Science/Math

We are learning about the properties of matter. We are learning different ways to describe matter, measure matter, and how temperature affects matter. This unit intersects with math quite a bit as we talk about different types of measurements and use a variety of tools to measure matter.  We will be learning about the Metric System and the Standard Units of Measure for finding length and volume.
